01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Set along Mitsume-dori in the Honjo district of Sumida Ward, Sanshuya presents two distinct dining experiences under one roof: a spacious, casual dining hall open for everyday walk-in meals, and a traditional reservation-only kappo dining room set aside in private quarters. With roots reaching back to the Meiji era, the establishment keeps its street-facing restaurant floor completely reservation-free, welcoming multiple generations to sit at roomy tables and pick from a wide spectrum of dishes.

Familiar Japanese and Western Staples Alongside Sculptural Curry

The restaurant menu covers a generous spread of comforting Japanese set meals, including a tempura and sashimi combination, crisp pork loin katsu, chilled tenzaru soba, and Fukagawa-don, where tender clams are simmered in savory dashi broth and bound with egg. The kitchen also turns out Western-style favorites, from beef steak finished with a refreshing grated daikon radish sauce to a combination of Salisbury-style hamburg steak and head-on fried shrimp, plus plates tailored for children. Among the most distinctive offerings is the Arch Dam Curry, conceived by the fifth-generation proprietor, an avid fan of civil engineering structures. The dish features a curved rice wall engineered to hold back the pool of rich curry roux, delivering an eye-catching presentation alongside a gently nostalgic flavor profile.

Private Rooms for Kaiseki Courses and Seasonal Hot Pots

Further inside, Kappo Sanshuya operates exclusively with private rooms and requires advance reservations, providing a tranquil environment suited to formal gatherings, celebratory occasions, and year-end parties. The kitchen prepares elaborate multi-course meals, such as a meticulously composed 10-dish kaiseki spread that progresses from seasonal appetizers and sashimi to grilled and fried courses. Guests can also choose course options paired with all-you-can-drink plans for lively get-togethers, or select seasonal hot pot kaiseki featuring hearty chanko nabe.

Complimentary indoor parking makes arriving by car straightforward. Whether you need a hearty lunch during a midday break or a relaxed table for a large family meal, Sanshuya offers an easygoing, adaptable setting to fit the occasion.
